From an early age, Dr. Pham Tu Thanh was captivated by the intersection of technology and human biology. While in medical school, he discovered that diagnostic imaging perfectly combined his passion for problem-solving with advanced technologies such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound. He was drawn to the field’s ability to detect hidden conditions and support critical clinical decisions—often without invasive procedures.

He graduated from the Vietnam Military Medical University in 2016. A key turning point in his journey was a radiology rotation, where he and his team diagnosed a rare hepatic arteriovenous malformation using contrast-enhanced CT imaging. This experience underscored the power and impact of medical imaging in patient care.

Prior to joining Raffles Medical, Dr. Thanh trained at several leading hospitals in Hanoi, including Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Viet Xo Friendship Hospital, and Hanoi Medical University Hospital. He worked for nearly three years at Duc Giang General Hospital and subsequently held positions at several international clinics such as Tomec International General Clinic, An Dat International General Clinic, and Bac Ha International General Hospital.

Dr. Thanh has a strong interest in early cancer detection using CT and MRI technologies. He keeps up with advancements in AI-powered diagnostics, 3D reconstruction, and low-dose imaging protocols. He advocates for precision in interpretation and patient-focused approaches, emphasizing the complementary roles of technology and human expertise.

One case that left a lasting impression occurred during a night shift, when a patient presented with severe abdominal pain. Though prior imaging showed no abnormalities, Dr. Thanh detected a subtle sign on X-ray suggesting free air under the diaphragm. He recommended a CT scan, which revealed multiple small gas pockets—leading to a diagnosis of duodenal perforation and emergency surgery. The case reaffirmed his belief in the life-saving potential of careful image analysis.

At Raffles, he aspires to strengthen the Imaging Department by applying advanced techniques and mentoring junior colleagues.

Outside of work, Dr. Thanh is passionate about sports—especially football. He plays regularly to stay active and relieve stress, appreciating the teamwork and strategy the game offers. He also enjoys watching matches, following international tournaments, and staying connected to the sports community.
